MIRC - 6th May Metro-City part of the Wami 09 Festival

As part of the WAMI Festival 2009 calendar Metropolis Perth will hold the Music Industry Reunion Club night.

The Perth Music industry has changed incredibly over the last 40 years. Instrumental in it's development has been companies such as Xpress Magazine. Kosmic Sound (yes I did start my career there many years ago!), and of course many studios such as Planet, Shelter Recording, Bonsai and Poonshead.

Longstanding names include PA Companies such as Kosmic Sound in the early days, Purvisonic Sound, Audex, Ross-Stereo, Bresound and "newcomer" AAA Productions and of course Procopy that has now been producing media since 1988. Production people that had an impact on the industry but have sadly passed include, Arthur James (AJ), Graham Timmermans, and last year John Villani.

Bands have come and gone, but we now have an extremely professional and well respected music industry with worldwide acknowledgement.  Too many names to list here but try to recall bands such as Sheriff (Bernie Lynch, Paul Felton. Bernie of course went on to create Eurogliders Paul featured in Jets for many years). Mark Lizotte starting John Diesel & the Injectors then becomming "Diesel" and long time stalwart of the industry Dave Hole. Bands such as The Boys, V-Capri, The Farriss Brothers (INXS), The Jets, The Elks, Frames, The Chevelles, The Stems, DM3 and Innocent Bystanders set the standard for Perth bands to follow.

Many venues with large rooms supported live music in Perth (many still do) including, Gobbles Niteclub, Pinnochios (The Globe & Backstage bar), Beethovens (later Rumours) and The Red Parrot. Pubs including The Charles Hotel, The Herdsman, Raffles, The Nookenburra (Jon English performing to a crowd of 2000 there was a memorable night). The Generator at the Morley Park Hotel and south of the river the Booragoon. Smaller band focussed venues included The OBH,  the Leopold, Captain Stirling, The Warwick, High Wycombe Hotel, The Boomerang, The Belmont, The Kewdale Hotel and the Kelmscott.  Of course country venues were important too with bands playing regularly at the Peninsula in Mandurah, in Bunbury and Margaret River.  With thousands of people going to see music each week there were hundreds of bands listed in Xpress Magazine every week!

This night marks the beginning of Music Industry Reunion Club - MIRC where the industry at large is welcome to join. The club will become many things, from a social club for catch-ups to a support group in the further development of the music industry. One feature will be an ongoing contribution to Support Act Ltd, Australia’s music industry benevolent fund.

If you havent got a ticket yet be sure to contact MetroCity asap this night will be a sell out.
