10 answers for your Important CD production questions

Now celebrating over 28 years helping our customers with producing their products, we've produced literally 100,000s of audio Cassettes, Video tapes, CDs, dvds and USBs.

Here's some answers to the most popular questions we get from our clients with regards to replicated CD projects.

Q: How much is shipping? $30? $50? $150?

A: it's free when picked up from our facility located in the Perth Metro area.  For interstate clients it's typically $50.00 to a major city metro area, and maybe be slightly more to a regional area. (We'll always let you know first) and of course we'll always help out with large orders

Q: Do you offer cardboard CD packaging?

A: An estimated 80% of our work now is card sleeve based, We have a wide variety of packaging options including card pockets, mailers, digipacks and gatefold sleeves. With a choice of finishes.

Q: How thick is the card stock?

A: We don't like the thin card stock so always go for stock around 320-380gsm. We find it stands up well to the rigours of road transport and regular use by the customers.  Aswell as being great to print and economical for the budget.

Q: Do we use recycled &/or sustainable forest stock for CD packaging?

A: Tip: Some printers will say plantation paperstock is more environmentally friendly than recycled stock. This is not alwasy the case.  We do offer this range if required, However have found that it's generally a more expensive option so there might not be the budget for it.

Q: If printing Digipaks  Do our trays have ‘teeth’ or a ‘push button’?

A: Our trays use a push style release which is easy on the disc. and tend to be more durable with repeated use.

Q: Do you charge for minor artwork corrections?
A: We check provided artwork for problems and give our clients to the opportunity to fix them up. We may charge a small feel for artowrk adjustments if the client can't bring it up to specification.  We have a comptehensive list of artwork tips and templates on our website.

Q: How fast is the CD project turned around?
A: Replicated CD projects will depend on the print, packaging and freight requirements, But typically 8-12 working days. Tip: Plan your launch for at least 2 weeks after the estinated delivery date.

Q: Do you use vegetable based inks?
A: Yes, Vegetable based inks don’t release VOC’s (unlike traditional inks).

Q: What format do you require for the artwork?
A: Print optimised pdfs are fairly universal these days but we'll also take PSD files if all the elements are provided.  Don't forget to ask for our artwork templates to use when designing your art or take them off our website.

Q: What format do you require for the audio master?
A: Send a master disc ( That has been checked ), or a disc image file (DDP), If you send individual WAV files we will have to create a CD master a ref copy for you to check and a DDP for production. This takes time so there will be additional charges.

Do your old films have vinegar syndrome?

If you have an old film collection of 8mm, 16mm, Pathe or 35mm then you should check it regularly for "vinegar syndrome" - You do this by opening the can and if you can smell a vinegar like odour then that's a definite sign that a chemical reaction is underway with your film collection.

What is happening?

Essentially this means that your film stock is beginning to deteriorate and the film is starting to decompose. Usually at this time we start to see a "snowflake" type of effect on the pictures, This is where the emulsion layer is starting to get really damaged (this is irretrieveable at this stage).

What should I do?

If you detect this vinegar smell we recommend that you remove the affected films from the rest of your collection and store them separately in a cool location until you can have it digisited.

You will get the best copy of your films if they are digitised before this process has started to occur. With Larger libraries of content a proactive programme of digitising should be put in to place.

What next?

Call us on 08 9375 3902 to discuss your film collection, or email enquiriers to [email protected]
