Obviously it depends on the degree of degradation, but it should not be assumed that a tape is beyond repair just because it won't play on a domestic VCR. We are able to assess your tapes for a fee of $50 (refundable if you go ahead with us). Straight transfer of tape to dvd is quite inexpensive, but restoration and editing can be pricey. It depends on the value of the material to you!
It is almost guaranteed impossible to restore video with average consumer equipment. The basic video hardware required for
excellent quality restoration starts at about $700 US and
goes up from there. That amount is for just a few basic
items, and does not even include a decent
capture card. This fact alone turns off most people from
trying to restore video. The ideal setup for a home user
wanting to guarantee himself or herself good results will
top near $1200 US for the video hardware, which again does
not include the capture card. For most
people, especially ones wanting to tackle all kinds of
projects, expect to spend $1500 or more.
A professional or semi-professional VCR is the
single most important piece of equipment for restoration.
Restoration starts at the source. The best decks are
typically S-VHS decks, not because they play S-VHS, but
because they come with many embedded filters and enhancers.

Hi,
I have some old video cassette tapes taken in 1982 which have traces of mould on and I am unable to play them. Do you know of someplace/someone who would be able to help me as I would like to have them cleaned or replicated in some way as they have sentimental family value.

I'm just enquiring as to whether it is possible to get the footage back from a faulty tape? It is a JCV Mini Digital Video Cassette.
When we tried playing the tape back, nothing would display except for jumbled picture at the side of the screen.

Hi Freya, you need to use an artwork template. This will give you the information you need. If you contact Ryan in the office, he can send you one. Hope this helps!

Hi!
I've got alot of home video's on tapes but they are all surrounded by recorded tv shows etc. How much would it cost to transfer just what we want onto a DVD?
Hello Sabrina - in order to do what you need, you will have to make a new master video from all the elements that you want to keep. The work is done on our Avid system and usually it will take roughly 2-3 times the programme length to edit for simple work - more if you want some fancy efx...
Liam is our video editor and it would be best to have a meeting with him to see what is needed in your specific case and he'll give you a free quote.
He can be contatced on 08 9375 3902

HI Ira
It's hard keeping track of all the new formats that come out. Your new cam could be Mini DV Exta long play and that can be a bit tricky to copy - However send it in and we'll give you a no obligation quote. In future though we'd recommend using standard play mode, the tapes arent that expensive anymore and the quality captured is much better

Hi Bernadette,
When doing a replicated run of discs a "Glass Master" is produced from your original so it is only economic to produce 500 of the one title.
If you want to produce lower than 500 copies of several masters then they would be done inhouse as recordable copies. Pricing is based on the quantity of each individual title. However we will usually help out when you order more than one set at a time.
