FESA Advice, preparation work in case of Cyclone

Courtesy of FESA website you'll find survival & preparation checklists here

WHAT TO DO:

  • You need to prepare for dangerous weather and keep up to date.
  • Revise your holiday or travel plans for the weekend.
  • Organise an emergency plan, including a relocation plan for your family and pets in case your home becomes flooded.

Tips to help you and your family prepare for the cyclone:

  • Store or weigh down loose objects around your home or work like outdoor furniture that could be picked up and thrown by strong winds, causing damage or injury.
  • Trim branches around your home to prevent them falling on your roof or car.
  • Clear gutters and downpipes so they do not over flow after heavy rain.
  • Prepare an emergency kit with a battery operated radio, torch, spare batteries and first aid kit.
  • Plan what you will do with pets and livestock.
  • Do not go boating, fishing, swimming or surfing in affected areas.

Tips to help you and your family prepare for fires:

  • If you live in an area with a severe, extreme or catastrophic fire danger rating you need to get ready to act.
    • Only stay with your property if you are well prepared and have a bushfire survival plan.
    • If you are not prepared to the highest level, leaving bushfire risk areas early in the day is your safest option.

 Boat owners:

  • Department of Transport advises boat owners need to ensure boats in pens and on moorings are secure and items above deck removed or secured.
  • Vessels at marinas with a floating pen system should raft up and tie off on the pile to reduce load on the pen system.

Bulk verge collections:

  • Due to potentially extreme weather conditions people in areas where bulk verge collections are scheduled are advised to delay placing their rubbish outside until the bad weather has passed or secure any loose items.

RECREATION SITE CLOSURES:

  • Department of Environment and Conservation advises recreation and camping sites in national parks, state forests, regional parks and other areas managed by the Department of Environment and Conservation south west of a line between Jurien and Bremer Bay have been closed. This includes Penguin Island as well as the sandbar from Mersey Point in Shoalwater Islands Marine Park. For more details click here.

  • If your home or property has been badly damaged call the SES on 132 500.
  • In a life threatening situation call 000.
